Leave the Bottle

Welcome to fast-topic-changing-Friday Island.

While I was drunk with power and in charge of The Knitting Nest (and having crazy sales that involved extra discounts on pink yarn), Stacy was at TNNA in California buying new stuff for the store, driving around in a convertible, and getting a tan.

It was a win-win.

Stacy also brought me some presents. Here are a couple of new things that I found especially exciting…

This is a new idea in sock yarn, called Flat Feet.

The yarn was dyed while it was knit up into this piece of fabric, which makes for unique color patterns when it’s knit into socks. You’re supposed to unravel this as you knit, so there’s no need to wind it into a ball.

Pretty cool idea. These will be available (in all different colors) at The Knitting Nest sometime soon.

img_8341.JPG Stacy also brought me back this vibrant hank of Trekking hand-dyed sock yarn. The colors are seriously “WOW”.

I can’t wait to see what other colors she ordered.

Stacy gave these to me before she even knew about the tragic heel blowout. Very nice, but OMG! I have stash all of a sudden!

It’s still a little big, but here’s Molly Renee modeling the EastEnders Baby Sweater that I knit for her.

We find this child to be pretty adorable.

img_8301.JPG Oh yeah, ha ha.

It was cute when Abe schlepped my bathroom rug outside. It was less cute when he tore up an important paper shortly after that.

It was even less cute when I found The Chartreuse Monster (my current knitting project) on my bedroom floor…

img_8344.JPG …And even LESS cute when he ate my cell phone the other day.

Not sure what’s going on here, but if I start drinking whiskey in the mornings, you’ll know why.

Please be sure to notice camouflaged Ike in this photo. He appears to be smiling.

Have a great weekend!

  1. Ut oh! Being an experienced dog owner, I don’t see one tee-tiny bit of remorse in Abe’s face. I have one dog that gets that same, “so what” look and the other will drop his ears when I walk in the room and seems to be saying “I’m so sorry but I still couldn’t help being bad…..but I am so sorry now”.

Love, love, love the EastEnders AND the very cute, rapidly growing Molly Renee. Have a great weekend!

  2. Stash????? You better knit fast this weekend! The flat fabric socks is an interesting idea–I look forward to updates on that.
Your niece is way too cute! (When does our show start, speaking of Alaska?)
    Have a great weekend!

  3. So glad you pointed out Ike in the photo! He was blending in so well I hadn’t even noticed him with his sly little grin πŸ™‚ I’m really curious about that Flat Feet yarn – very interesting idea. Have a nice weekend being somewhere without slush-snow-ice and freezing temperatures!

  4. Dude! The cell phone too!?

My Italian Greyhound once managed to unravel an entire skein of yarn…that I had just wound into a ball. It was around corners, looped upon itself, tangled, knotted. All I could do was laugh.

  5. Of COURSE Ike is smiling! Every time he gets a mischievous or destructive idea, all he is to do is mention it to Abe and then sit back and watch!

  6. just so long as you drink the good whiskey, there won’t be any problems. ike is smiling because he’s not the one in trouble. if you were wondering, yes it is frozen tundra for sunday’s game. it’s frozen right now. i hate it. favre better win.

  7. Please understand that Abe isn’t in trouble for his recent bad behavior. I’m trying to figure out why it’s happening. He is getting more exercise than ever since the move to Austin, because we’re taking really long walks (so it’s not pent-up energy). He’s getting more attention than ever, since I only have two dogs now.

I have to guess that because he’s getting more and more confident, he’s just pushing it. Testing me. Discovering the boundaries.

The good news is that I got an awesome new phone, and a local Austin number out of the deal. πŸ™‚

  8. molly renee is so presh, staci. she looks adorable in her handknits.

that sock yarn looks pretty cool. can’t wait to see what you come up with. stacy spoils you rotten! (that’s a good thing).

  9. Molly Renee is sooooo cute, even cuter in the cap and sweater.
Seems like Abe is looking for attention, oh my poor cell phone. πŸ™‚
Hope you have a good weekend.

  10. All of those things probably really smell like you (not in a bad way).Jubilee is 12 and still loves to drag my hubby’s towels, t-shirt, and socks and everyone’s underwear around, give em a little chew and a good roll around on. It must somehow be comforting to get that smell all over themselves.
Kona on the other hand wouldn’t be caught dead doing anything that silly unless there is food somehow involved. He once chewed completely through the bottom of hubby’s new Tumi briefcase to get to a cookie inside.
I’m pretty sure they believe if I’m dumb enough to leave it where they can reach it, it’s fair game. It’s their job to ensure our lives are never dull.

  11. Ate your phone? Good lord! Anyway, I’m inspired by the baby sweater/hat set, in part because of America’s Next Top Baby Model. I must knit baby stuff.

You know, having seen Abe’s progress through your blog, this seems to me to be something of a good sign. I know, it’s not great to have your phone eaten, but you wrote about how he was rescued and needed help to get accustomed to being a part of a family and all that, it seems that he’s becoming more comfortable and being “his own dog,” maybe for the first time ever. He’s lucky to be in such a good home.

  12. I think Ike is smiling becuase Abe is in trouble…

I’ll be watching for more info on the Flat Feet.

  13. Wow, say it isn’t so…Staci has a stash!!
Flat feet is such a great concept for those of us who adore knitting socks. I can’t wait to see what kind of socks you create with them!

  14. Hey…I just want to point out that the stash was a gifty thing… so it wasn’t exactly an effort…so it’s allowable. =D

That Flat Feet yarn has really piqued my interest…can’t wait to see how it knits up for you. And the red and blue….mmmmmm love it.

The cell phone…OH NOES! We’ve washed eachother’s at our house…then Aleah was sucking on mine one day and the reciever didn’t work any more.

Now… to the PUP-PAY?! I know the yarn smells yummy…mom and sheep intermingled, but not so hot to play with. Yarn does not settle well in the belly and according to the cats gives an awful hairball. The cell phone…sigh I just don’t know what to say on that one. Were you trying to make the world’s first D2D call? Calling to order a mass delivery of your favorite kibble/treats/raw? Was it ringing and you were diligently taking it for answering?

  15. Bueno?? lol. I’m sorry that Abe is your current seek-and-destroyer, phase maybe?
I also hope that he didn’t tear up your project too badly.

  16. Abe is looking seriously nonchalant. Oh yeah, he knows he shouldn’t have done that. He’s just wondering if your love is unconditional. πŸ˜‰ (I can’t believe he didn’t chew your project!)

Molly RenΓ©e is too cute in that sweater and hat! Someday she’ll know how lucky she is to have an aunt so devoted to her. πŸ™‚

  17. The Flat Feet yarn sounds really interesting. Not sure if I would actually want to buy it, but definitely interesting concept.

    Your niece is extra cute!

  18. I find the look on Abe’s face to be completely familiar, as if to say “I have no idea what you’re talking about”. Seen that look before in my house!

  19. Heh, the joys of puppies! They’re sooo adorable… πŸ˜‰

That Flat Feet thingy looks interesting. I’d love to try some.

  20. I think Ike might be telling you he is still not comfortable in his new home and might need a little extra love.

The “Flat Feet” sounds really interesting I can’t wait to see these in person. I sure hope they sell them at my LYS.

  21. Found my way to your website after Friday’s lesson. You are a very talented lady. Your kids are beautiful in addition to being mischievous. Look forward to additional postings.

  22. I’m weirdly fascinated by the Flat Feet. And that Trekking is amazing. It could burn holes in your retinas, if you’re not careful.

  23. Flat Feet is a brilliant idea – that’s going to fly off the shelves! And I didn’t see Ike camouflaged in the background – you fooled me! What’s the deal with Abe though? He shouldn’t be that naughty!

  24. I can’t imagine having such close contact with a yarn store and NOT having a stash! You must not be the impulse buyer that I am. πŸ™‚

I know June gets tired of my knitting sometimes, but she just lays on top of it (while I’m working). She’s great at those not-so-subtle hints. Surely Abe’s new hobby is a sign of something good, even if that something remains a mystery.

  25. I think Abe’s just showing all the normal signs of separation anxiety. While you give him all the extra attention and extra walks, he still misses the others. It’s a time thing. Just keep on piling on the love, he’ll be fine soon.

And second thought – it’s probably his way of taking to the bottle.

Last thought – tell me how to resist – look at my stash and you see the issue.

Here’s a hug for the 3 of you.

  26. Your dogs are too cute, even after being bad doggies. That sock yarn does seem pretty darn cool!
