A Forever Home for AbeMarch 21, 2007 In case you need to get caught up, we have had four dogs in this house...three resident dogs, and one foster. Abe has been our foster dog since early January. He spent the first three years of his life as a backyard dog who wasn't allowed in the house. When we first got him he had no indoor skills, his coat was in poor condition, and he was just skin and bones. Abe has come a long way. | |

| Fostering is a bittersweet experience. Dogs who are turned over to rescue groups usually have some emotional baggage. | |
| It's the job of the foster family to take care of the dogs medical and emotional issues, and to give them the basic skills they need to fit nicely into their next home. The foster family also has the task of helping to choose which new home will suit the dog...is the dog good with kids? Is the dog crate-trained? Does the dog steal yarn? | |
| The bittersweet part of fostering is the bond the foster family makes with the dog. You feed them, walk them, train them, and make sure they get at least 10,000 kisses a day. Then you have to let them go. | |
| Well. Apparently we suck at the whole "fostering thing". We're better at the "adopting thing". Abe isn't going anywhere. It's official. |

| Welcome to your forever home, little man! |
