Umm...Babies Don't Ski.February 26, 2007 You know that was exactly what Chris said when I told him what I was knitting...but I made a baby ski sweater, just in case. Here's how it went... |

| I knit up the three pieces, then steamed them out to measurements using my shiny new blocking board. Okay, it isn't really shiny, but can I just say that having a blocking board kicks ass? Then I measured how wide the openings needed to be for the sleeves... | |
| ...and reinforced those openings with some machine stitching. | |
| Once it was safe to cut (it never feels totally safe, by the way), I got to work with the scissors. Then I attached the sleeves and seamed the shoulders. |
|
| I had the neckline stitches on holders, so I slipped those back on to the needles, knit the neckline facing, then stitched that down to the inside of the sweater. | |
| It is SO FREAKIN' CUTE. Some details: Pattern: Dale of Norway "Designs for Baby Number 162" book, sweater 16209 (cleverly named!) Yarn: Dale of Norway Baby Ull Size: Three to six months Recipient: My yet-unborn Alaskan niece or nephew (let me go on record as saying that I think she's a girl) |
|
| Now that I've had a close look at the pattern, I see that I could have easily modified it into a skull-and-crossbone motif. I think my sister would have been okay with skulls, but hearts are safer. |
|
| Next on the needles - baby ski pants. Because that kid's gonna have to learn to ski - preferably between 3 and 6 months of age. |
