What Have I Become?

March 16, 2007

Normally I'm a one-project-at-a-time gal, but not right now. I'm also normally a stashless gal, but I recently discovered some lurking, foreign stash.

Who am I??

As I've mentioned before, I'm currently working on the Chevron Scarf from Last Minute Knitted Gifts. The two colors of yarn I'm using look so good together, that I wanted to use them again for another project. So, before I started using the 3rd and 4th balls of yarn, I tiptoed off...
...and made these.

This pattern is BRILLIANT. (I've only knit about four different baby sock/bootie patterns, so maybe I'm just inexperienced.) The pattern is called Angora Baby Booties, and is also from the book Last Minute Knitted Gifts.

A far cry from the other bootie patterns I've knit - there is inside-out knitting, double-knitting, a surprise heel, no seaming, and a limited use of DPNs. I'll be using this pattern again. It was actually an EXCITING pattern to work.
Lost, then found! I bought this yarn on our trip to Italy in 2005, and I honestly thought I left it somewhere in Europe. A couple of days ago I found it - still in the Italian shopping bag, stuffed in with some leftover fabric. Yay!
You can see that it's a real souvenir from Italy - 100% puro cotone and Prodotto in Italia.

Now, what do to with it? It's a heavily-twisted, cord-like cotton, 400 meters. Any ideas? Seriously, help me here. I don't want to save it.

OMG - see? STASH.
Since I've started knitting baby stuff for the Great Unborn Alaskan Niece or Nephew, I've been struggling with the best way to display the items. I don't like to lay everything out flat on a table, you know? That being said, I'm not sure this is the answer.

Although, Ike is always willing to model.
Next up - the Dollar and a Half Cardigan from the Spring Interweave Knits magazine. I cast-on for this yesterday in the new Knit Picks yarn called CotLin - a cotton and linen blend. (Or "oxy-cotlin", because that pops into my head every time I hear "CotLin".)

Quick yarn review: it is a lot like Knit Picks Shine, but without all the splitting, and it is much softer. That's saying a lot, because I really like Shine. For me, Cotlin is nicer to knit than Shine.
Mandatory Basenji photo -

A rare shot of all four dogs together. (At least one generally moves out of the camera frame as soon as we try to capture the moment.)

Back to front: Gus, Ike, Abe, and Lou.
