The newspapers are right - we'd like to introduce you to Lou. Named Joe Louis Allard, after the heavyweight boxer from early last century. We thought a little man like Lou should be named after a big man like Joe Louis.

Most of the details are in the newspaper section above, but here are the rest. He's tiny, just about 17 lbs. (Gus and Ike are more like 30!) He's 2.5 years old, but it's really hard to believe because he's so small. He's sweet, housebroken, non-destructive, and cute as hell...we got a keeper.

When we first met him in Ft. Worth, he was all smiles, wags, and affection.

I hear that rescue dogs often spend their life showing gratitude for every bit of love they get.

Lou was found wandering the Texas Tech campus in Lubbock. When his owners couldn't be located, he was turned over to Basenji Rescue, and he's been with a great couple of foster parents since April. The Basenji Rescue folks believe that Lou was abused earlier in his life, so his foster parents did a great job of building his confidence. I have to admire those folks for the work they do, and their big hearts.
Here's an idea of how tiny Lou is. Gus used to be our little dog, and he is bigger than Lou in every direction.
A hug from his foster daddy.
This is such a sweet picture.
A snuggle from his foster mama.
And a big kiss. Awww, this is a great shot of a tender moment.
The new adoptive parents, sweaty (but smiling)!
Ike, as usual, was a nervous car rider on the way up, so I was a little worried about what it would be like with three dogs on the way home. Nothing to worry about. Lou found a place in the back and slept the whole time, which created a very calm atmosphere for everyone.
On the way home, we stopped at Whataburger for a quick bite. Here's the first photo of all of my boys as a pack.
Right after we got home (about 9:15pm), we fed everybody and took the boys out for a quick walk. Then it was time to PLAY.

Dogpile on Gus!
Our big dogs would have normally just called it a day after a long drive like that, but having a new little brother to play with was just too exciting.
He's tiny, but he's mighty!
Gus' expression is so funny here!
Yes, Lou does look a little like Gus. (Gus on left, Lou on right.)

I know all of you non-dog or non-Baseni people are saying that they look JUST alike. They don't.
It will take some time for Lou to learn the ropes around here...like when the big dogs want to play, and when they want to lounge around in the mid-day heat.
We're off to a great start with our new happy-happy-happy, good-natured boy.
