| After the Yarn Swap party, we had a little left-over yarn that I planned to give to a charity. It isn't easy to find a charity that will accept yarn in it's yarniest form, before it's knit up into something. But I did some research and I found Boston Healthcare for the Homeless Program. Their name sort of says what they do, but they also provide a temporary home to homeless people after major surgeries so that they have time to heal after being released from the hospital. That is when yarn comes in handy...as an activity for the healing folks who are stuck in bed. BHCHP is a good org with really nice people, and I feel good about sending yarn to them. |
|
| Before sending the yarn out, I asked other Houston knitters if they wanted to "clean house" a little more and add to the pile. They did! Jet added another bag of yarn, Kelly added a bit more, Lisa threw some in, and Mia added ANOTHER GIANT BAG of yarn from Peru. Mia goes to Peru solely to buy yarn. Peru is sort of her LYS. (That's Local Yarn Store for you non-knitters.) | |
| But it gets even better! I put all of the yarn together into a super giant bag and hauled it off to the UPS Store, because I knew they would box it up for me. Jose, who must be the owner of this UPS Store, SHIPPED THE GIANT BOX FOR FREE! He and I got to talkin' and he wanted to give a little bit, too. Thank you to the UPS Store on Memorial at Asbury in Houston. Such a nice surprise! Ohhhh, it was hard for Gus to be good during this photo shoot. But he did it! No yarn was destroyed. But you can see how much he wanted to rip apart just one hank or so... |

| I thought that washing baseball caps in the dishwasher was some sort of urban myth or something, but we gave it a try. And it works! I even threw a pair of rubbery shoes in there, too. I can hear the baseball fans saying: "...hmmm...I see three Seattle caps, a Boston cap, a couple of golf caps, and something that looks like a Michigan State cap. So where are the Astros caps?" I can answer that. Since we haven't lived in Houston that long yet, our Astros caps are still so new and shiny that they aren't ready for the dishwasher yet. We do indeed have Astros caps now. We're totally 100% behind the home team. Just not when the Cardinals are in town. :) |

| C'mon, Chris! Try flapping your arms a little harder! I think you have lift-off! I'm so immature. |

Once again, as a tribute to the now defunct You Knit What?? site, I bring you some fugly knitting. This little gem is called "Party Tie". What a party that will be! Once again, I've given these models the modesty of the "Cosmo Don't" face bar to protect their identity. |

And a bit more fug... Isn't this awful? Here's the bad part. This isn't from the Bernat or Lion Brand knit-a-dress-in-a-day-with-superchunky-acrylic-yarn, this is from Vogue Knitting's most recent issue. Vogue! Vogue? Nuh-uh. |
| Kristin brought it to my attention that I forgot a dog breed in the Fun With Doggie Ears post. I bring you Shar-pei. |
