Curl Up & DyeNovember 1, 2006 I'll make this title work, I promise. As a knitter, I really don't want to start any other kind of projects. No dyeing, no spinning, no scrapbooking, no sewing. Even though I know I would enjoy them, I don't want to take the time away from my beloved knitting. But Kelly invited some gals over for a bit of dyeing (and beer drinking), and I thought I would at least go and watch (and drink beer). I dyed yarn. I loved it. I want more. Sigh. |

| For the "Curl Up" part of the title, I bring you a bit of curling up. | |
| Poor little guys are all covered in mosquito bites from that morning's walk. I bought some all-natural, dog-friendly mosquito spray yesterday. | |

And now for the "& Dye". Here I am, in the red apron, standing over the dye pot on the stove. Katharine is standing with the green yarn she just finished dyeing. I decided to dip-dye, and since I knew nothing about dyeing, I sort of made it up. The other gals mocked my artistic vision and told me my arm would start hurting after holding wet yarn up in the air for a half-hour. They were right. My arm got tired. I also had no idea as to whether or not this method would work. I don't know why I'm making this face. It's not like it stunk or anything. Maybe I always look like that. Photo courtesy of kelp!. |
| Wet yarn! Dip-dyeing worked! | |
| Jen and Sharon did some handpainting... | |
| ...And Amy decided to dip-dye, but only after she had over-dyed a solid red color. We started getting all kinds of good ideas. Amy and I learned that if you sort of rested your elbow on the cabinet knob, it took a little of the pressure off. Wet yarn is heavy. |
|
| The next day, my yarn was dry enough to be twisted into a hank... | |
| ...Then wound into a cake... | |
| ...Then knit into a couple repeats of a scarf-sized Cozy. Forgive me, Christmas Spirits! I realize I'm wasting time knitting on something that isn't for Christmas! I promise, I'll stop! Now I have a ton of ideas for colors and for dyeing patterns, and I can't wait to dye some more. Learning to dye with people who already know how to do it (Kelly and Amy) makes it really easy. You can just ask a question instead of having to look it up on The Online. It's also nice to have someone else mix up all of the colors! (Thanks, Kelly and Amy.) |

| Brace yourself. Change of topic. Here's a fancy parking job I saw downtown this morning. Yes, they are touching. |
