Flashing Stash is Soooo 2006

January 25, 2007

Before we dive in, "stash" is what knitters call the yarn they have put away to knit someday. We've already established that I really don't have one.

Last year, knit bloggers across the world participated in a "Flash Your Stash" photo theme. There were photos of endless amounts of lovely yarn. I didn't participate, for obvious reasons.

Enough background info...

My friend and fellow Houston knitter Christine of Big Pink Cookie and the Pointy Sticks podcast and website stopped by my house on Wednesday to interview me for her podcast. I haven't listened to it yet, but I'm sure that Christine's charm made up for my dorkiness. You can visit the Pointy Sticks site to download the show, or it is also available in iTunes. No iPod necessary.

In the podcast, I lied and said that I was wearing a handknit mohair cardigan, that my hair was flowing and lovely, and probably hinted to some makeup or something. Total lies. I was wearing polar fleece, a pony tail under a Kodiak Alaska baseball cap, and chapstick.

Since it was mentioned in the podcast, here's the link to my knitting tattoo story.
Christine wanted to see what stashless knitting was all about.

Here is the trunk, aka, the coffee table.
The first thing you see inside are three throws, for snuggling up with the dogs during tv time.

The throws take up about half of the trunk.

I also found board games at the botttom.
Here it is! Thirty years of knitting, and all I have to show for it is a few hundred yards of wool. Let's break it down:

On the left, there are two bags of Rowan, left over from when we lived in Holland and I had to buy all my yarn in mill packs. To the right, there are about 6 bags of yarn left over from the Palette Sweater. In the center, there is some left over Peace Fleece and some Berocco Suede. The End.

Shocking, but underwhelming.
Wait! There is one bag of stash! I bought this bag of Dale of Norway Stork to knit up into baby items for shower gifts. This qualifies as stash!

Truth be told (I seem to be truthful in italics, huh?) I also have a few hanks of handpainted blue silk from the Yarn Swap party upstairs. So I have two little bags of stash.
Ike, mid-yawn, totally bored with it...but appreciating a rare glimpse of the sun.

Yesterday was his 9th birthday! Happy Birthday, Munky.
