| Not too many pictures of Florence, because our travel plans had to change due to a train strike in Italy. Well, a train strike AND the fact that I accidently booked our hotel room for JULY and not JUNE. And all the hotels were booked for some fashion convention. And because we were starting to hate Florence with all of the troubles we were having. So we just stayed one night here. Here is the Duomo Cathedral. Building started in 1296, so it's pretty darned old. The outside is really stunning, built in white, green and pink marble. |

| This is a bronze relief from a door at the Duomo. Don't those look like Basenjis? |
|
| We did find a hotel room, or what they called an "apartment". It was okay, and the air conditioning worked well...but there were no windows! Here I am, on the phone, trying to buy train tickets out of Florence and booking a longer stay at our hotel in Venice. | |
| The nicest thing about our "apartment" was that it granted us roof access to the hotel. (The hotel itself was a few blocks away, our room was some sort of hotel annex.) The roof had perfect views of the Duomo. | |
| We didn't make it to see the real statue of Michelangelo's David, but we saw a bronze version from the open-air bus tour we took through Florence and Firesole. | |
