Lookit! I Found...umm...StuffSeptember 18, 2006 Okay, so Chris and I are looking through some boxes in the garage because there are some old photos that I can't find in any of the normal photo places. In this search we find two small boxes that I haven't bothered opening for the last two moves because of how the movers labeled them. I thought they were full of old computer books. We opened them anyway because I was so desperate to find these damn photos. Lo and behold! The boxes had some strange and wonderful things inside. Okay, so I'm being liberal with my use of "wonderful". They certainly contained some strange things that I hadn't seen in YEARS. |

| The dolls! I made these when I was like 9 years old. They are meant to represent me and my two sisters, and they were gifted to my great-great-aunt so that she wouldn't miss us after we moved away. After she died, my mom made sure the dolls made it back to me. I could make fun of the goofiness of their 100% acrylic selves, but I'm not going to. Instead, I'm going to stand in awe at the detail I put into these as a 9 year old. To make sure that each doll was wearing different clothes, I crocheted (knitting and crochet! in the same project!) suspenders and overalls on two of them, and gave my little sister a striped sweater. I'm impressed with the fact that I included gold buttons on the overalls. |
| These dolls are not cute, but they are detailed. The suspenders continue around the back into a "Y", and the overalls criss-cross. I used garter stitch for the body, and switched to stockinette for the faces, so they would be smoother. They are clearly not very smooth, but you can smell what I was cookin'. |

| Next up in the box is an ancient Pee Wee Herman doll, back from the days when no one thought he would ever appear on the nightly news in a mugshot photo. When you pull the string on his back, he says things like "I know you are, but what am I?" This Pee Wee doll's recording thingie is broken, and he talks really really fast now. Enough to annoy the dogs. |
| You see why I am so excited to find all of these precious things? I honestly forgot about all of this stuff. This is my plastic bug collection. Plus a rubber eyeball. |
| To give you an idea of just how old this stuff is, here is a pair of earrings I found in the bug collection box. Are these back in style yet? Dare me to wear them? |

I really don't want to end today's post with a photo of ugly earrings. Here is a little movie of our happy, happy little Lou. Basenjis are "barkless", but this sound is called a "baroo". Our boys don't really baroo very often, but baroos are the highest compliment you can get from a Basenji. ----->Totally unrelated, but watch the counter at the very bottom of the page today. You could be hit number 100,000! |
