GirlificationMarch 30, 2007 Maybe the universe is working against me - maybe Lou is working against me - or maybe I'm just working against myself. Let me back up: As I have mentioned before - my sister is expecting, and I've knit several things for The Great Unborn Alaskan Niece or Nephew. I've knit a few items appropriate for a girl or boy, but lately I've been leaning towards all things girly. Even though I've been encouraging my sister to have a girl, I thought it was about time to face facts. This baby could be a boy. Better knit a few boy things to balance it out. | |

| So I found this yarn. The navy blue is left over from a project over ten years ago, and the other is Silk Garden left over from a Clapotis. Sort of unconventional to mix cotton and wool, but I really like the colors together. I started a bootie. I was knitting along, and I don't know what happened. Somehow I got distracted... | |
| ...and Lou played with the bootie. Luckily, my neeedles fell out - so they're safe. But the bootie is a goner. I TRIED to knit a boy thing. | |
| I had no idea that this little bit of knitting could be SO MUCH | |
| FUN. In case you're wondering, Lou is not in trouble. Dogs around here get in trouble for chewing on things like sofa cushions or table corners...but not things that we're stoopid enough to leave in their reach. | |
| I wasn't too upset. I had an idea for a baby shoe of my own design that I was excited to cast-on. I grabbed some denim-colored cotton and got to work. Not bad. Simple, no seaming required. Then I couldn't help my self... | |
| ...I girlified it by adding pink. I have no self control. | |
| I set that one aside, because I had an idea for a design improvement. (Good thing babies have small feet - easy to start over again.) See here? Moss stitch keeps it from curling in on itself. | |
| Clearly, I am unable to leave booties alone, and not add something pink to them. But isn't it cuter? I believe that my inability to make a pair of baby-boy booties means that my sister is having a girl. I have a couple more ideas for design improvements on these booties that I want to try, then I'll offer it up as a free pattern. | |
| As if I didn't show enough of my family in Wednesday's post... Some members of Chris' extended family are putting together a geneology book, including photos of the families today. We thought we had already submitted our photo, but we hadn't, and we had to get our photo in THAT NIGHT. So, this photo was a tripod + camera-timer project, taken during the last bit of natural light. Seriously last-minute. Considering the fact that we had four dogs to get into the photo, I think it turned out okay. Too bad about Abe...it would have taken a miracle to get him to show up well in the photo. |
