The Good with the BadMarch 19, 2007 So what do you want first? The good news or the bad? The bad news isn't really all that bad...but let's start with the good. | |

...in a lame attempt to match this pose from the book. I discovered that wrapping a scarf around my head like this doesn't really suit me. |
| More good news? Okay! The Dollar and a Half Cardigan from the Spring Interweave Knits magazine is underway. It's good news now, but it wasn't good news on Saturday. I wasn't liking the way the reverse stockinette stripes were looking, so I ripped back several inches and replaced it with stockinette. Kelly mentioned in Friday's comments that Knit Picks no longer has CotLin available on their website. I really hope that they just ran out of it for a little while...this yarn is really nice. I can't bear the idea of a future without more of this yarn. |

| Okay, time for the bad news. It turns out that the judges for the Master Knitting Program for Advanced Knitters (a.k.a. Blackbelt Knitting) are very, very picky. I got my Level 1 materials back, and I need to redo a few swatches. Even though I have more work to do, I'm totally impressed with how carefully they reviewed my swatches and written materials. They also sent a very nice letter along with my materials, which said that "very few submissions get through on the first try." In this swatch, my decreases are "stretched and oversized". Additionally, we're supposed to use a light-colored yarn, and this was considered too dark. (I'll use white from now on.) I'm a little bit disappointed, but the more I think about it I realize that it would be a bullsh*t course (and therefore a waste of time) if I didn't have to work pretty hard at it. Right? (I should probably be glad that most of my swatches did make it through on the first try.) | |
| In this swatch, "there are uneven stitches in the cable at the left edge. Some are marked with thread." Of course I can see it now, but I really thought it looked fine when I sent it off. Won't happen again! I've ordered that white yarn and I'll get busy on resubmitting these swatches. And, I can guarantee that I'll be more careful with how I work the swatches for Level 2. |

| Which came first? The dogs matching the decor, or the decor matching the dogs? Ike makes a fine centerpiece. | |
| This photo is a blooper. We tried to get a shot of Lou on the table first, but as you can see, he didn't like it. |
