Jingles I Remember, Part I

July 10, 2006

Some members of my family have been given a gift (yeah, right) that allows us to remember every word to every song or jingle we have ever heard in our lives. As nice as it is to sing along to the radio in the car, it is also cumbersome to walk down the grocery store aisles and have ten thousand jingles pop into your head.

I guess that's sort of beside the point, because commercial jingles are designed to stick in everyone's head for 30 years.

In this post, I've put together ancient jingles that I clearly remember. I remember them so well, in fact, that these particular ones haunt me to this day.

So, I'm a 38-year-old woman who can't help but sing out loud, "Mon-chi-chi, mon-chi-chi! Oh so soft and cud-du-ly! La, la, la! La, la, la! Happy, happy Monchichi!"

Speaking of Monchichi, here he is.

I don't know if they sell this doll anymore, but the song lives on (see paragraph above).

Kinda looks like Chris before he puts gel in his hair, minus the thumb-sucking part.
Kool-Aid's here, bringin' you fun
Kool-Aid's got the thirst everyone (?...okay, maybe I don't know all of the words)
It's a big wide happy ear-to-ear
Kool-Aid smile-ile-ile, for the biggest smile is a Kool-Aid smile
a Kool-Aid smile, a Kool-Aid smile!
Baby Alive, soft and sweet
She can drink, she can eat.
Baby Alive, beautiful face
Dressed in pink and pretty lace.

My sister had this doll. It poops.
You wear it well, Diet Shasta
Ooo wear it well, Diet Shasta!
Taste that cola, bright and bold, old-timey root beer, too!
That lemon-lime, so crystal cold, they all look good on you!
The great-looking taste of Diet Shasta, oooo - you wear it well!
If you want to play the game, you gotta take a good aim
And get the most marbles with your hippo!
Playing Hungry Hungry Hippos! Hungry Hungry Hippos!
This is not a jingle, but something I remember very clearly from 30 years ago...

Blue Star Counterfeit Diamond Ring. It's flawless...full of fire and brilliance. Dispersing a blaze of specro-colors like tiny rainbows. A one carat center stone surrounded by four smaller stones. Yes, an expert can tell the difference, but pratically no one else can!

Clearly this photo has NOTHING to do with this old commercial.
Good morning, good morning!
Life's sweet with Orowheat
Good morning, good muffin, to you!
Hold the pickles, hold the lettuce
Special orders don't upset us
All we ask is that you let us serve it your way!
Have it yoouuuur way, at Burger King!
C and H
Pure cane sugar
From Hawaii
Growin' in the sun!
When you cook, when you bake, for goodness sake
Get C and H pure cane sugar
C and H pure cane sugar
C and H pure cane sugar, that's the one!
OMG, I have to stop this...
One last jingle!

If it says Libby's Libby's Libby's
on the label label label
You will like it like it like it
On your table table table
If it says Libby's Libby's Libby's
On the label label label!
Get that last jingle out of your head.

Count backwards from ten. Ten, nine, eight...

Okay, now you may move on.

Random photo time!

It's not hard to guess what city Chris was visiting for work last week.
