Extreme Makeover, Doggie Edition

October 2, 2006

Gus' surgery day was on Friday, and everything went just as planned.

This is really all Gus did on Friday after his surgery. The vet let him come home a bit early, because she knew we would keep a close eye on him.

The only thing he did besides sleep was to wake up with a start, stand up, then realize that he didn't have as much energy as he thought. Then he would fall asleep right there, on his feet.

You can see that they also removed a smaller zit from his hip.
We were so glad to have him home, but it worried me that the anesthesia didn't wear off for a couple of days! I called the vet, and they said he might not be normal until Sunday.

He started behaving normally on Sunday afternoon. Even played a little bit. All is good.
The incision is really big. Our vet observed the surgery, and she recounted the story with a lot of praise for the surgeon.

We will be able to take a final big sigh of relief once the lab calls and tells us that there were no scary cells in there. They aspirated the zit once several weeks ago and didn't find any bad cells, so we're waiting to hear that same news again.
Ike has been on high-alert, taking care of Gus. It's really very sweet.
He has been Gus' little nurse...
But Gus doesn't always like it.

No photos of Lou today, since he's has pretty much been staying out of Gus' way.
We've let a few things slip, and Gus was a little spoiled over the weekend.
Here's the big Extreme Makeover Before and After. He really looks good!
On to the next topic...

I could start a feature on verypink called "Lookit What Came in the Mail Today!", since a good 80% of the cool things I buy come via UPS.

This time is a simple little shawl pin that I ordered from Patternworks. I've always wanted a shawl pin, but they are usually too fussy for me. This one is inexpensive, and understated enough that it won't take away from the shawl it is holding.
It will give me options for wearing a shawl that I haven't been able to pull off without a pin.

I'm going to order several of these and give them away with gift shawls I knit.
I've bitched about the Beer Can House before. It is supposed to be restored to it's former glory soon. (I can't wait. pfffft.)
Anyway, someone dropped off "building materials" in front of it the other day. A billion vintage beer cans! Like seriously vintage. Like the pull-tops that people used to die from swallowing.

I wonder if the restorers, The Orange Show, asked for vintage beer cans, or if someone was cleaning out an attic and said, "What the hell do we do with all of these sticky old beer cans??", and decided to drop them off here.
One last thing...

Attention Texas knitters and fiber people! The Kid 'n Ewe fiber festival is coming up. Julia and Christine have put together a wiki so that a bunch of us fiber pilgrims can meet up and have some food and fun.

Guaranteed good time.
