Houston, Don't Panic!

December 1, 2006

To the people of the fair city of Houston...you're going to be alright.

I'm sort of an expert at this, and I can help you through it.

The local news might be scaring us with terms like "Severe Weather", and "Winter Weather Blasts", but there is no reason to panic.

Human beings throughout history have been known to survive weeks - even months - in weather colder than this. The high today will only be 58 degrees, but I know you can do it.
Something strange is going to happen that I want to warn you about. Your windows are going to fog up, but not like they normally do. They are going to fog up on the inside, since the temperature in the house is actually warmer than the temperature outside.

It's really okay. Window glass can withstand much colder temperatures than this. Interesting fact - did you know that folks in Alaska have windows, too? Tell your friends!
Other useful information: you will need socks, a jacket, a hat (baseball cap is fine), and maybe even gloves and a scarf before you venture outside. Flip-flops and short-sleeved shirts should be worn INDOORS ONLY.

These are my dog-walkin' shoes. If I worked at the fashion houses in Paris, handknit socks with Keens would be ALL THE RAGE.

Feel free to email me if you have any questions like: How do I drive in 58 degrees?, or Are my children safe in school when it's 58 degrees? (the local news actually covered this one already, seriously), and Will the malls be closed due to severe weather? I know the answers!
Lou knows how to take care of himself in the cold.
Buuuuuut, Lou got up for a second and Ike promptly took his spot.
