Mimi - The Hooded Scarf

My friend Mimi in Seattle is a hair and makeup artist. This Christmas she made a request for her gift - something to keep her neck and ears warm while she was working on location.

Oh - and can you make it in baby blue?

And can it have fuzzy white trim?

Nooooo problem, I said.

Materials:
3 hanks Berroco Ultra Alpaca, color #6239 (baby blue)
1 ball Le Fibre Nobili Geisha, color 1951 (white)
Size 8 US needles
Size US G crochet hook

Gauge - gauge is flexible here. Since the pattern mostly deals with inches, just make sure you're knitting in a fabric with the density you desire. I'm sort of a loose knitter, so size US 7 might work well for others.

This pattern is worked in two parts - the scarf, then the hood. The two pieces are then stitched together. Both parts are in a basketweave stitch with garter stitch.

SCARF

CO 42 stitches
Knit 4 rows of garter stitch (knit all rows)

-start basketweave pattern-

Row 4 - K

R6 - P8, *K2, P6* repeat between the "*" across to last 10 sts, K2, P8
R8 - K
-end basketweave pattern-

Repeat these 8 rows until work measures 46"
Knit 4 rows of garter stitch
BO

HOOD

CO 98 stitches
Repeat basketweave stitch until work measures 11" (no garter stitch border here)
Fold work in half and use a 3-needle BO to seam the top of the hood

FINISHING

Use mattress stitch to seam the hood to the scarf
Single crochet Geisha around all edges for that fluffy look

ENJOY!

Note - I found this basketweave stitch in Vogue Knitting Stitchionary, Volume One, Knit and Purl book.
