My Favorite Photos, 2006

January 17, 2007

January may seem a little long-in-the-tooth for 2006 retrospect, but I had to get past all of those Christmas knits before I could finally do this!

First, let me say that I'm not a photographer. If "photographer" means someone who takes photos professionally, or even knows what they're doing behind a camera - that ain't me. What I am is a photo-taker, which sounds much more casual. I take a LOT of photos. Most of them are crap, but sometimes I get lucky.

I sorted through hundreds of 2006 verypink photos and found my favorites. Here they are.

Early in the year, I went to visit my family in Kodiak, Alaska.

This photo to me is "typical Kodiak", because you have the ugly, necessary eyesore in the foreground...and a beautiful treeline and mountain in the background. Kodiak is a beautiful place, but it's also a working place.
I believe this was also taken sometime early in the year.

Two long-time best friends and brothers. Both of them very focused on the same thing out the window.
After the Yarn Swap Party in June, we had some leftover yarn (plus some more) to send to charity.

Gus normally tears up any yarn that he can reach. This was amazing self-control on his part. You can see that his body is sort of in a relaxed position, but don't be fooled. His ears are way up on his head and his eyes are very wide - there is no relaxing around this much yarn.
Hmmm...I believe this was taken in the fall.

Chris and I had just gotten home from going out to dinner, so we stepped outside with the dogs to see if they needed out. As soon as we saw the gecko on the glass door, Chris ran upstairs to get the camera. We spent the next 15 minutes or so taking photos of each other like this and laughing our asses off. Until the gecko ran away.
This photo was just taken right before Thanksgiving. The boys had just licked-clean some whipped cream from a banana cream pie plate. As they're cleaning the remaining whipped cream from their faces, they look so happy (and hopeful that there is more).
Lou, shortly after we got him in June.

He looks so warm and soft. Adopting him was one of the best things we did last year.
