Drunken RavelryMay 4, 2007 There's nothing "drunken" about this post. The two words just go together so well for a title. Before we get to the good stuff, I should say something about verypink and RSS. You might have noticed that verypink is showing up in your feed reader. Well, it sort of is. I have a temporary fix for it now, but big changes are on the horizon. I've put the Verypink Overhaul Project on guru.com to find someone to help me (finally). Once I choose a geeky genius, it should be a three-week project. I'm so excited. | |

| On Wednesday I mentioned a few ways in which I've been busy. But I left out one thing that has been really eating up my time, because we weren't allowed to talk about it yet. Now we can. This, my friends, is Ravelry. I've been lucky enough to be a beta user on this baby, and I LOVE it. It's going to change how the online fiber community interacts. It's a place for knitters & crocheters to share their stuff, make new friends, learn things...Damn. Wait. I'm not doing a very exciting job of explaining it. You're better off reading the description over at Lickety Knit. | |
| The masterminds behind Ravelry are Jess and her husband Casey. It's amazing to me that this is being done by just two people. It is so cool that you would expect there to be a whole office building working on it. Beta is gradually growing, as the beta users regularly receive invitations to hand out. (I think folks are also let in via a waiting list you can join.) Before it gets too big, I want to mark this moment. This image is showing me as number SIX on the "Most Projects" list with 52 projects. That was yesterday. This morning I'm number 9, and just about to be shoved off this list. If you'd like an invitation, let me know. I don't have any at the moment, but I'm sure we'll get more soon. | |
| A funny thing has been happening with my knitting over the last several weeks, and Ravelry has been fueling the fire. Instead of browsing books and magazines for patterns that I want to make, I've been drawing out my own patterns. It's like a switch clicked over in my brain. It's a strange feeling. Twisted Knitter (aka Janet) has this discussion on her blog which asks whether you feel like a maker or designer. It's a good read. My burning desire to design might only be a temporary thing, so I'm going to get all of these patterns on paper in case they stop coming. | |
| Here's Lou. If he could talk, this is what he would say right now: "Umm...lady? STEP AWAY FROM THE COMPUTER AND TAKE ME FOR A WALK! IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S GONNA RAIN SOON, AND I DON'T WANT TO GET WET." Demanding little cuss, isn't he? Have a great weekend! |
