Gallery of Christmas KnitsPart 4, An Array of ScarvesJanuary 5, 2007We've past the mid-point of the Christmas knits. This is Part 4 of 6. Whew. The first three scarves below are men's, but since Chris was out-of-town when I decided to photograph them, I didn't have a male model. So Anne Boleyn stood in, with all of her womanly curves. |

| Pattern: Very simple... 1st row knit; 2nd row k1, p1. Lather, rinse, repeat. Makes for a stockinette-look, but it doesn't curl nearly as much. Yarn: Cascade 220 "The Heathers" in the descriptively named "9457" color; 100% Peruvian Highland Merino Wool Knit for: My sister Phyllis' fiancée, Levi Notes: This scarf was knit-to-order. I already knew that you can't put too much detail into a man's scarf, so I went with my usual simple scarf stitch. Phyllis told me the color to use, because it brings out Levi's eye color. |
|
| Pattern: Again, very simple... 1st row knit; 2nd row k1, p1. Yarn: Berroco Ultra Alpaca in black; 50% Alpaca, 50% Wool (if you haven't seen this yarn in person yet, you're missing out!) Knit for: Chris' brother Jon Notes: Jon wears a suit to work every day, so I made this a dress scarf length...just long enough to cross on his chest under his overcoat. |

| This next gift is a school-colors scarf. It was my first stab at intarsia, as well as my first stab at mapping out an intarsia pattern. I printed out the University of Tennessee logo from The Online, and got to work with some knitters' graph paper. 'Round these parts, (as in Texas), University of Tennessee is referred to as "the other UT". Both UTs' colors are orange and white, but the Tennessee orange is bright, NOT burnt, orange. |
|
| Pattern: My usual scarf stitch pattern, plus intarsia, and stockinette around the intarsia Yarn: Cascade 220 "The Heathers" color 9444; 100% Peruvian Highland Merino Wool Knit for: Our friend Tom, who currently lives in Holland Notes: Orange is not only one of the Univeristy of Tennessee colors, but it also happens to be the Dutch national color. If Tom tucks the UT logo into his coat, his neighbors will just assume he's celebrating Dutch pride. I should have straightened out the fringe before I snapped the photo. Oh, well. |

| I posted this work-in-progress several weeks ago, but I couldn't really say much about it a the time. This is the only Christmas gift I knit that wasn't gifted from me. I knit this for someone else to give as a gift, if you can get your mind around that one. | |
| Pattern: Eve, from the Twisted Sisters "Enchantress" book Yarn: Brooks Farms Duet; 55% kid mohair, 45% fine wool (beeeeeautiful yarn) Knit for: My friend Melissa, so she could give it to her mom as a Christmas gift Notes: Melissa's mom bought this yarn with the intention of knitting it herself, but she hadn't gotten around to it. Melissa, being sneaky, took the yarn from her house and sent it to me. I knit the scarf and sent it back in time for Melissa to wrap it up and give it to her mom on Christmas morning. Melissa gave me carte blanche on the pattern selection. I was happy to knit something more decorative than the simple men's scarves I had already made. |

| Ending the week with a doggie photo... For Christmas, the boys got some super realistic looking plushies. (Yes, we're weak. We swore off plushies a long time ago.) Here is the squirrel, after Gus had about five minutes with it. That's the squirrel's ear next to his foot. He's merciless! |
