Winter/Spring 2005

I'm going to skip some of the winter pictures here, and get straight to a spring picture. Here we are (Staci and Chris), out walking the dogs, in a photo Chris took of us. What is that warm, yellow, bright thing in the sky? We're standing outside and we're not getting wet...amazing. (Note to Marty and Michele - lookit the hat! I told you I would be wearing it in every single warm-weather photo!)
Back to Winter pictures for a while. In February, we went to Oldenburg, Germany to visit Heinrich. Here's the Heinrich story...back when Chris was in high school, his family had two foreign exchange students living with them over the years, and Heinrich was one of them. He and Chris are about the same age, and they became really close. They hadn't seen each other in years, so it was a nice trip to see Heinrich and his partner Sylvia. Here is a pic of Chris and Heinrich on our daytrip to Greetsieler.

A nice shot of the harbor in Greetsieler.
A square in Greetsieler.
Here is a nice shot Chris took of some modern windmills in Germany.
The North Sea from Germany.
Back in Heinrich and Sylvia's hometown, Oldenburg.
Another shot of Oldenburg, including me and Heinrich.
We went out for a traditional German dinner on our last night there, to a place called Fahrkroog (I think). Part of the tradition is drinking BOOZE from big SPOONS after saying a verse in German. The spoons hold about a shot, and they seem to have a zero-tolerance rule for anyone who wants to 'sip' from the spoon. Part of the tradition is taking the whole shot in one gulp. After we did one shot the waiter came back and said we HAD to do another. Okay, whatever. Then he came back and said we HAD to do a third. I didn't think I wanted a third, but Heinrich explained that a third shot is also part of the tradition. Okeeey.

Surprisingly, it didn't feel like I had done three spoons (shots) of alcohol, because the meal was pretty substantial. Notice that we each have a beer in front of us, too!
The day that we left Germany, we had breakfast with Heinrich's parents. We were so lucky to have such nice weather while we were there.
Chris and Heinrich again.
This is such a terrible shot of me, but I think it's funny. Chris and I were on the train back to the airport in Hamburg, and I was just so tired. I've never seen a person look so tired, even after marathons or mountain climbing or shopping sprees or boot camp.
Back in Holland, we had a March cold snap that left these birds wondering what the hell happened to their lake.
Brrr...cold Munky.
I don't usually put pictures of Chris' work travels on this part of the site, but here is one I couldn't resist. This was his dinner in Athens, Greece. Yep, it's a piranha. Zoiks!
Another shot from Greece...Chris met a guy with a Basenji puppy! Isn't he so cute?! Lucky for me, this puppy sort of gave Chris 'puppy fever', and I think we'll get one when we get back to the states.
Speaking of Basenjis, here are our boys on a nice April day.
Chris and Gus, on the same sunny day, walking around the canal near our house.
We know now that we're leaving Holland and headed back to the US in July. (So we will have been here exactly 2 years.) Time to start taking sentimental pictures like this one, of our street sign.
