Dogs and Knitting? What a Surprise!

November 15, 2006

Now that I'm finished with Christmas knitting, I can move on to other things that I had nearly forgotten about. Like finishing things I knit ages ago.

I want to start with a question. I need some advice.

Here is my completed BPT. It has been sitting unfinished through the warm weather months, so I just put the zipper in last week.

When it is all zipped up like this, it is fine. But when I want to wear it unzipped...
It naturally flops open and exposes the back of the zipper. I don't like how that looks.
Here is a close-up.

Does anyone have any ideas what I can do? I know it isn't criminal or anything to show the back of the zipper, but I just don't like it. I think that stitching in a ribbon facing on the inside might make it too thick and heavy.

I don't want this sweater to end up in the Great Unwearable Pile just because of this little problem!
Here is Sitcom Chic finished with a cool button. Since it is mostly stockinette, I had a problem with it curling...
...So I used this cool ribbon as facing along the front edges.

It needs one more good steaming to smooth out the torture it went through under the sewing machine, then it's ready to go. I'm pretty happy with it.
Currently on my needles - Ivy. Last week I said this thing was really slow-going, but that was really only through the cabled ribbing part. Even though the stitches are pretty small, the pace has picked up since I got into knitting stockinette. Here's where I am today, just past the armhole decreases.

It is really, really curling on me, so I had to use this little Dutch neighborhood to hold it down.

Strange...by reading this post, one would think that I only knit sweaters from knitty.com.
On to some handmade goods not made by my hands...

These came in the mail yesterday. They are crocheted (and heavily startched) snowflakes, and they are so pretty. They are going to look really nice hanging in the front room windows at different heights. Especially since we probably won't have any real snow in Houston.

I bought these mainly because I loved them, but also because they are part of a fundraiser for Basenji Rescue. The auction is an eBay/Mission Fish auction, and can be found here.
Besides buying beautiful things to decorate my house through Basenji Rescue, I'm also a volunteer.

On Monday, I snatched up this tri-colored Basenji guy, named Dirk, from a Houston City shelter. He is currently being boarded at our vet's office since we can't foster him at our house. He is now looking for a foster home, and a forever home.

This boy is so very sweet. I expected him to be a bit apprehensive of me, but he was just grateful and lovey. He's going to be a wonderful best friend to some lucky person.
Flashback to Kid 'N Ewe. Here is a photo that Kristin took of my first spinning lesson.

I want to mention something I didn't notice, in case you did. Chris found a ton of typos in my Kid 'N Ewe post from Monday. I guess I typed the word "even" instead of "event" several times, and even though I proofread my posts, I missed it. I need to go back and fix those errors.
Bright, sunny mornings means that I get to move the little dog beds around to follow the sun on the floor.

Spoiled, you say? Ummm...yeah. I don't think these dogs would make it in their native Africa. Not without fluffy doggie beds and 100% chicken breast treats.
