Too Hip, Gotta Go

November 10, 2006

No, I'm not too hip. But I'm hoping that I just got an old Stray Cats song stuck in your head with that title.

This is the SHORTEST POST EVER for verypink. Because I do gotta go. I need to be ready to leave at an ungodly hour for Kid 'N Ewe tomorrow morning. Not only do I have to be ready, but since I'm the one who takes care of everyone around here, I want to make sure that this house is set up to be a man/dog bachelor pad for a couple of days. So I need to go shopping for steaks, beer, chips...and I'll make sure we're still getting 20 channels of sports before I leave.

My boys will be happy while I'm off having fun, but I have a lot to do before I'm ready.

On my needles as of yesterday: Ivy from knitty.com. (This is knitty's lovely photo, not mine.)

Can you believe I am actually showing you something that I'm knitting without having to wait until December 26th?! Very exciting for me to be blogging normally about my knitting again.

Couple things about this baby...first, it is SLOW GOING. I worked on this for hours yesterday, and I only finished four inches. Not surprising, I suppose, on size 3 US needles, huh?

Second - I love the yarn. It is Peruvian Quechua from elann.com, 65% alpaca and 35% Tencel. I normally get more excited about patterns than yarn, but I really like this stuff.
The bottom ribbing of this sweater is a twisted-cable-rib-thing. It is verrrrrry stretchy. Here it is all stretched out.
I realized something funny last night. Ike is eight years old, and of course, hardly knows a day of his life that doesn't involve yarn. He is totally accustomed to the fact that yarn is going to touch and tickle him while he sleeps - doesn't bother him. He's also a good pattern holder, as you can see here. (I need to mention...yarn is NEVER left unattended around these dogs. NEVER AGAIN.)

Since Lou has been around this house, I realize that Ike's yarn skillz are a special, learned talent. Lou FLIPS OUT if yarn touches him. Can't stand it. He thinks there is a bug on him. As for Gus...well, Gus prefers to sleep in his own kingly dog bed by his royal self, as a sort of command center, I suppose.

So here's to Ike. Master Pattern Holder and High-Threshold for Tickle-Haver! Hurray!
