Whiz Bang!March 2, 2007 Fast-topic-changing Friday! Hold on to yer hats! First, an announcement. Christine and I have another "knit chat" on the new Pointy Sticks podcast, which should be live before lunchtime today (I suppose "lunchtime" depends on your timezone). This week is just me - but Christine has some great interviews coming up, including Amy Singer and The Yarn Harlot. Pointy Sticks is free - you might as well just subscribe in iTunes so that you don't miss anything. Here we go... |

I apologize for the camera-phone quality, but you can still read the packaging, right? I'm from a city in Alaska called Kodiak. Kodiak is on an island called Kodiak Island. There are BIG bears in Kodiak, called Kodiak Bears, like the one pictured here. Kodiak Bears make me think of dead salmon, maulings, dumpster diving, and giant poops in the woods. They do not make me think that I want pancakes. Furthermore, this pancake mix is made in Utah. Next...! |
| Baby pants. Stitch count: 22094. (I wish I was kidding.) To date, the dullest thing I have ever knit. So, I decided to give my self a little break from the monotony... | |
| ...And I made a tiny mitten. In case you didn't know, this is all to match the sweater. |
|
| The motif in the mitten is all done in duplicate stitch, meaning it was knit as a plain white mitten, then the color pattern was stitched on later with a needle and thread. I was REALLY PROUD of myself for thinking ahead and doing the duplicate stitching before I closed up the top. |
|
| Oh - and it's thumb-less. I double-checked with my sister (who is having this baby), and she said that thumbs aren't essential for a 3-month-old's mittens. (I got the idea to skip the thumbs when I noticed that they were "empty" in the pattern photo on the baby model.) Knitting the second mitten will give me a break from the mind-numbing boredom of the second pant leg. Next...! |

| Some bittersweet news...Abe, our foster Basenji, is officially up for adoption now. I know that many of you were rooting for us to keep him, but there are so many good reasons for us to stick to our foster agreement and send him on to a new forever home. First, he's totally adoptable. He'll make someone an excellent best friend. Next, we want to continue to foster, and we really can't if we already have four dogs. Also, there are so many great homes waiting to adopt a rescue Basenji, why would I want to prevent a match made in heaven? Please remember this - I get to pick his new home. All applicants through Basenji Rescue are carefully screened, including a home visit, before they are considered for a dog. |

| We are so proud of this boy. He's come a long way since we first got him over seven weeks ago. He's put on a little weight, his coat has improved, and he has learned to potty outside. And most delightfully...he has learned how to play and be a loved member of a family. I'm currently screening applicants. We're going to miss him, but truly - we're so proud of him. |
